Retiree Health Analyst

The Retiree Health Analyst (RHA) performs dynamic financial analysis of post retirement health care systems. It is used as a financial planning tool and to evaluate policy alternatives. The following policies are highlighted: 1) contributions; 2) asset allocation; 3) accounting and 4) plan design. The accounting module follows FAS 106 methodology.

The software produces deterministic and stochastic projections of the financial status of the plan for as many as twenty years into the future and for a wide range of assumptions about demographic, human resource and economic events. The most recent year for which an actuarial valuation has been performed is the base year for projections. Projections of demographics, assets, liabilities, contributions, expense, funding ratios and other variables of interest are produced.

In the deterministic mode, one projection at a time is produced corresponding to one particular set of projection assumptions for each forecast year. In the stochastic mode, multiple projections are produced simultaneously. Each projection corresponds to a particular asset allocation and possible future economic scenario.

In the stochastic mode, inflation rates, interest rates and rates of return for a wide range of asset classes are projected using a Monte Carlo simulation model. A full covariance model is employed and projections can be made for as many as ten asset allocations simultaneously. Actuarial assumptions such as discount rates, general pay increases and expected rates of return can be linked dynamically year-by-year to the simulated inflation and interest rates.
